PALM BAY, Fla. — Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man at a Palm Bay park after investigators spent about a week reviewing forensic evidence, surveillance video and other information, police said.
Palm Bay police identified the suspects as Christopher Hriciso, 18, and Caleb Davis, 17. Police said both face first-degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm charges in the death of Isaac Cohen. Authorities said Davis, who is a minor, will be charged as an adult. The charges are allegations, and the case has not been resolved in court.
The investigation began Aug. 26 after police responded to a shooting at Patrick Woodard Memorial Park. Officers were called to the park at about 6:30 p.m., and Cohen was later identified as the person killed. At the time, police said no one was in custody and asked people to stay away from the area while detectives worked at the scene.
Police announced the arrests Sept. 3. Investigators said the inquiry included multiple search warrants, a review of forensic data and surveillance video, and several interviews. Authorities said those investigative steps led detectives to Hriciso and Davis.
Investigators also examined evidence recovered from Cohen’s vehicle and used digital forensic information as they worked to determine what happened. Police said the evidence indicated the shooting was connected to an apparent drug transaction. Authorities have not publicly released a detailed account of the encounter or specified the alleged actions of each defendant.
The arrests marked a major development from the first hours of the investigation, when authorities had released little information beyond Cohen’s identity and the location of the homicide. Police initially said the circumstances surrounding his death remained under investigation and that there was no known danger to the public.
Palm Bay Police Chief Jeff Spears said investigators worked around the clock to develop answers in the case. He also expressed sympathy for Cohen’s family following what he described as a senseless loss of life.
Police have not announced additional arrests or released further details about the evidence they believe connects each teenager to the shooting. Information about court appearances, attorneys for the defendants or their responses to the allegations was not available in the reports reviewed for this story.
The investigation remains open. Palm Bay police continue to seek information from anyone who may know more about the shooting or the events surrounding Cohen’s death.
