One person was taken into custody after police searched a nearby apartment building, while another suspected participant remained at large.
LANSDOWNE, Pa. — Police were searching Wednesday for a suspect after a man was fatally shot on a Lansdowne street Tuesday night, prompting officers to lock down and search a nearby apartment building where two people reportedly fled after the gunfire.
The shooting was reported around 10:30 p.m. near North Maple and Blackburn avenues in the Delaware County borough. Responding officers found a man in the street with a fatal gunshot wound. His name and age had not been released as of Wednesday, and authorities had not publicly identified the person who was taken into custody.
Police focused their search on the nearby Marshall House Apartments after reports that two people ran through a side entrance of one of the buildings following the shooting. Officers restricted access to the building while they searched inside. One person was later taken into custody there, but authorities had not announced charges or described that person’s suspected role in the shooting.
Law enforcement officers conducting the search included a K-9 team and officers carrying protective shields, according to video from the scene. Police also recovered a loaded magazine during the investigation, according to information provided by Delaware County officials. Authorities continued looking for a second person believed to have been involved.
Investigators had not released a name or description for the person being sought as of Wednesday. They also had not disclosed what may have led to the shooting or whether the victim and the people sought by police knew one another. No motive had been announced.
A heavily damaged car was found near the shooting scene, adding another unanswered question to the investigation. Police were examining whether the crash was connected to the shooting, but officials had not established a public link between the vehicle and the gunfire.
The overnight police activity brought a large law enforcement response to the residential area. Residents interviewed Wednesday described the shooting as unusual for a neighborhood they generally considered quiet and said they were disturbed to learn that a man had been killed nearby.
The investigation remained active Wednesday. Authorities had not released the victim’s identity, the ages of those involved, any criminal charges or a description of the person still being sought. Police also had not announced what caused the confrontation or clarified whether the nearby vehicle crash was related.
