An 18-year-old faces felonious assault and weapons charges after a teenager was wounded twice Sunday night on Ring Place.
CINCINNATI — An 18-year-old has been arrested after a teenager was shot twice and seriously injured Sunday night in Cincinnati’s East Price Hill neighborhood, according to police and court records.
Adrian Washington, 18, faces two counts of felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business in connection with the shooting. Police said the victim, described as a male in his late teens, suffered two gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers responded shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday to the 2500 block of Ring Place after reports of gunfire. Dispatch information indicated that a gunshot-detection system had been activated in the area. Officers found the wounded teenager after arriving at the scene.
Police said Washington ran from officers before falling and dropping a gun. Authorities later took him into custody. Officials have not released additional details explaining where Washington was first encountered, how investigators connected him to the shooting or whether the recovered firearm has been tied to the gunfire through forensic testing.
The charges against Washington are allegations, and the case has not been resolved in court. Authorities have not publicly described what they believe happened before the shooting or identified a possible motive. Police also have not released the injured teenager’s name.
The shooting was initially reported Sunday night as an investigation without an announced arrest. By Monday, police and court records identified Washington as the person charged in the case. The victim remained described as seriously injured but expected to survive.
The case adds to recent police activity involving teenagers and gun violence in East Price Hill. Separate shootings have been investigated in the neighborhood in recent weeks, although authorities have not announced any connection between those cases and the Ring Place shooting.
Investigators have not publicly released a detailed sequence of the confrontation that led to the gunfire. Information about a possible dispute, the number of people present and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unavailable as of Tuesday.
Washington was taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center after his arrest. The criminal case remains pending, and Cincinnati police have not announced additional arrests in connection with the Ring Place shooting.
