Police said the deaths of two adults and a juvenile appeared isolated, with no evidence of forced entry into the home.
SAN DIEGO — A homicide investigation at a Lake Murray-area home brought a large police response and hours of street closures Wednesday after officers found a man, woman and juvenile dead inside, but authorities said they did not believe the surrounding community faced an ongoing threat.
The investigation centered on a residence in the 6800 block of Boulder Lake Avenue, near Navajo Road. San Diego police dispatch records show officers were sent to the Lake Murray neighborhood for a reported death at about 8:18 a.m. Sept. 16.
Police later confirmed that three people had been found dead in the residence. Authorities described the victims as a woman, a man and a juvenile. Another police account provided to local media said the three were believed to be parents and their child. Their identities and exact ages had not been released Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators said the victims had gunshot wounds. Police also said the person who reported the incident told authorities that gunshots had been heard at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officials had not publicly explained why police were contacted the following morning or released a full timeline of events inside the home.
Homicide Lt. Christopher Leahy said police found no evidence of forced entry. Authorities characterized the deaths as an isolated incident and said there was no apparent danger to nearby residents. Police also said they were not searching for an outstanding suspect in the neighborhood.
Those statements narrowed the immediate public-safety concern but did not establish what occurred inside the residence. Police had not announced an arrest, named a suspect or disclosed a motive. Investigators also had not publicly said who fired the gunshots or released a final classification for each death.
The investigation prompted officers to restrict access around the home while homicide detectives processed the property. Police said streets in the area were expected to remain closed for approximately eight to 10 hours. A separate local report placed the possible closure at eight to 12 hours, reflecting the uncertain amount of time investigators expected to need at the scene.
The case remained concentrated at the Boulder Lake Avenue residence rather than expanding into a neighborhood search. That distinction was central to the police message Wednesday as investigators worked behind the closure and authorities told residents there was no active threat to the community.
Detectives continued working Wednesday to determine the sequence of events and formally identify the people who died. Police had not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and no arrests had been announced as of the latest public reports.
