Police say Hammodi Ahmed Ali Al Naser faces two aggravated murder counts after Saturday’s deadly shooting on Evelyn Drive.
NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — A 44-year-old North Olmsted man has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder after police said his wife and 18-year-old son were fatally shot Saturday at the family’s home.
North Olmsted police identified the man as Hammodi Ahmed Ali Al Naser. Authorities said he was taken into custody after officers responded to the 3800 block of Evelyn Drive on Sept. 19. He was being held at the North Olmsted City Jail and was expected to be arraigned Monday in Rocky River Municipal Court. The charges are allegations, and the case remains under investigation.
Police said dispatchers received a 911 call at about 2:10 p.m. from a person reporting that a neighbor had shot his wife and son. Police and firefighters responded to the home, along with personnel from nearby communities.
Officers found an 18-year-old man outside the front of the house suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. First responders provided aid before he was taken to a hospital. Police later confirmed that he died. Authorities identified him only as the son of the man taken into custody and the 42-year-old woman found inside the home.
The woman was found inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead, according to police. Authorities had not publicly released the names of the two victims as of Sunday. Police said the suspect was the woman’s husband and the teenager’s father.
Detective Lt. Matt Beck said investigators had not determined a motive. Police described the shooting as an isolated family incident and said there was no indication in the information released publicly that the case involved a broader threat to the surrounding community.
Investigators spent hours processing the residence, photographing the scene, collecting evidence and speaking with people in the area. Police also said other children connected with the household were moved to another residence and were safe. Beck described the initial response as chaotic because of the number of relatives and children involved.
Authorities said a handgun was recovered at the scene and that Naser was taken into custody without incident. Police had not released a detailed account of what investigators believe happened inside the home before the shootings or what may have led to them.
North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones expressed sadness for the family and the community in a statement released through police. She also addressed domestic violence generally while emphasizing the work of first responders to protect residents. Police have not publicly released additional evidence establishing a motive in this case.
Naser remained in custody as investigators continued gathering evidence. His expected court appearance Monday would mark the next step in the criminal case, while police said additional information would be released as the investigation develops.
