Driver Allegedly Turns Around and Attacks Mother Walking Children to School

Enid police said the assailant turned his car around after the woman yelled at him to slow down.

ENID, Okla. — Police are searching for a man accused of punching, kicking and striking a woman with an object as she walked her two children to school Tuesday morning in Enid, authorities said.

The attack happened about 7 a.m. Sept. 29 near 20th Street and Pine Avenue, according to the Enid Police Department. Investigators said the woman and her children were walking to school when a silver four-door car sped through the area. The woman yelled at the driver to slow down, police said.

Instead of continuing on, the driver turned the car around, stopped and got out, according to police. Investigators said he confronted the woman and assaulted her with an object while also punching and kicking her. Authorities have not publicly identified the woman, and police did not report that her children were physically injured.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not released additional information about the extent of her injuries or said what type of object was allegedly used during the assault.

Investigators described the suspect as a white man about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds. Police said he had short brown hair, was unshaven and was not wearing a shirt. No visible tattoos were reported.

After the attack, the man returned to the vehicle and fled north, police said. Investigators said the silver four-door car then turned west onto Chestnut. Authorities had not publicly announced an arrest or identified a suspect as of the latest available reports.

The circumstances described by police place the encounter during the morning school commute, with two children accompanying the woman when the confrontation began. Police have not released the children’s ages, identified the school they were walking toward or said whether investigators believe the driver and the woman knew each other before the encounter.

The Enid Police Department is continuing to investigate and has asked for information that could help officers identify the man or vehicle involved. The department’s non-emergency dispatch number is 580-242-7000.
