The woman’s husband told investigators her behavior had recently changed, while police confirmed several earlier welfare calls to the family’s home.
NORTHLAKE, Texas — A newly released arrest affidavit provides a more detailed account of the hours before a Northlake woman allegedly stabbed her husband and two young children, as investigators review a history of welfare-related police calls to the family’s home.
Holly Leeann Flores, 37, was arrested Tuesday after police responded at about 4:20 a.m. to a home in the 1200 block of Daylily Drive. She faces two counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her 34-year-old husband, 3-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son were hospitalized after the incident and were expected to survive, authorities said.
According to the arrest affidavit, Flores’ husband told police that her behavior had changed recently and said he believed she had been experiencing postpartum depression. His statement is an account given to investigators, not an independently established medical diagnosis. He told police he had begun sleeping on a couch in the living room so he could be closer to the children.
The husband told investigators that he woke during the night and became concerned after hearing Flores using a lighter. When he entered a bedroom, he said he saw her lighting a candle and noticed a kitchen knife on a dresser. The affidavit says the two had a verbal confrontation before he returned to the couch.
He later heard the children crying, according to the affidavit. When he went back to the bedroom, he told investigators that Flores opened the door while holding the knife and attacked him. The document says he suffered an injury to his forehead and struggled with her before taking control of the knife. Police said he then called 911.
Officers arriving at the home encountered the injured man outside and detained Flores, according to the affidavit and police accounts. During a protective sweep, officers found the couple’s two young children injured inside. Both were taken to a Fort Worth hospital. Police Chief Robert Crawford said Tuesday that he believed their injuries were not life-threatening and that the children were expected to recover.
The affidavit also says Flores made a statement to emergency medical personnel indicating that she did not want to live. She was transported to a Denton hospital for evaluation and treatment before being released and booked into the Denton County Jail. Authorities have not announced a motive, and the affidavit’s allegations have not been proven in court.
The new document comes as police examine their previous contacts with the home. Crawford said officers had been called there about five times since March, with most of those calls involving welfare concerns. He said the calls originated from the residence rather than from neighbors but declined to give additional details because the investigation was continuing.
Those earlier police contacts have become part of the broader timeline investigators are reviewing, but authorities have not said whether any of them involved alleged violence or whether they are directly connected to Tuesday’s incident. Crawford said he did not want to characterize the previous calls without additional context.
Flores remains accused of two attempted capital murder counts involving children younger than 10 and one aggravated assault count involving her husband. Police continue to investigate the events inside the home, the family’s prior contacts with officers and other circumstances surrounding the case.
