Murder Suspect Left Prison Eight Days Before Baltimore Shooting

State corrections officials say Tyree Reynolds completed his five-year prison term before his Sept. 25 release.

BALTIMORE, Md. — The man accused of killing 12-year-old Khloe Ishway during gunfire near a youth football game had been released from Maryland state custody eight days before the shooting, according to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Tyree Reynolds, 23, was released Sept. 25 after completing a five-year prison term, the department said. Police allege Reynolds opened fire Oct. 3 near Leon Day Park in northwest Baltimore after a dispute involving other men. Ishway was killed and several adults were wounded. Reynolds now faces 30 criminal counts, including murder, attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment.

The timing of Reynolds’ release has brought new attention to his previous criminal case and the sentence he served. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said Reynolds had been sentenced to 15 years of incarceration, with all but five years suspended by a judge. The agency said he served the entire five-year term, day for day, before leaving state custody.

Court records cited by local news organizations show Reynolds previously pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and a firearms offense stemming from a 2021 shooting case. Records reviewed by FOX45 indicate the sentence also included three years of probation. Reynolds was still on probation when the Leon Day Park shooting occurred, according to the station’s review of the case.

Reynolds had faced several criminal cases in 2021. Court records cited by FOX45 show he was arrested on a handgun charge in February of that year and was granted pretrial release after challenging his detention. He was later arrested in connection with an assault reported in March and a shooting in July. The March case was not prosecuted, while the July case eventually led to the convictions for which he served his prison term.

Authorities say the Oct. 3 violence began after an argument near the park, where families had gathered around a youth football homecoming event. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said the dispute involved a parking space. Charging documents allege surveillance video showed Reynolds in a parking lot beside the football field before he exchanged words with other men and began firing.

Investigators allege another man returned fire and wounded Reynolds in the ankle. Police said Ishway and three other adults were also struck during the exchange of gunfire. Reynolds later sought treatment at a hospital. The surviving victims were reported in stable condition after the shooting.

Baltimore police arrested Reynolds without incident Oct. 6 and took him to the Central Booking Intake Facility. At his first court appearance the following day, Reynolds appeared by video and waived a formal bail review. His public defender did not present a substantive bail argument at that proceeding.

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said it was heartbroken by Ishway’s death and the injuries to bystanders. The agency emphasized that Reynolds had completed the prison time imposed under the sentence before his Sept. 25 release. The department’s account distinguishes the expiration of that incarceration term from his continuing probation supervision after release.

The investigation remains open. Baltimore police are searching for another person believed to have exchanged gunfire with Reynolds, and authorities have not announced an arrest of that person. Reynolds is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Nov. 4. The charges against him are allegations, and the criminal case has not been resolved.
