Investigators say Revelin Meador required constant care and could not independently obtain the fentanyl that caused her death.
FOUNTAIN RUN, Ky. — Investigators revisiting the 2020 death of a medically fragile 7-year-old Kentucky girl are focusing on the circumstances of her daily care after determining she could not have obtained or administered the fentanyl that caused her death.
Revelin Meador died Aug. 1, 2020, in Allen County from acute fentanyl intoxication, according to findings cited by the Allen County-Scottsville Crime Task Force. More than six years later, authorities have reclassified her death as a homicide and arrested her grandfather and primary caregiver, Bobby Meador, on a first-degree manslaughter charge.
The renewed case centers in part on Revelin’s physical condition. Investigators said she was medically fragile, needed care around the clock and was unable to care for herself. They said she also lacked the physical ability to independently obtain or administer fentanyl, leaving investigators to examine how the powerful opioid reached her system.
Detective Ryan Dillon said Bobby Meador was responsible for Revelin’s daily care, including feedings and the administration of medication. Dillon said Meador told investigators that those duties were his responsibility. Authorities have not publicly detailed evidence showing precisely when, where or how Revelin was exposed to fentanyl.
That unanswered question remains significant as the criminal case moves forward. A manslaughter charge is an accusation, not a finding of guilt, and investigators have not released a complete account of the evidence supporting the charge. Bobby Meador is entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case proceeds through the court system.
The Allen County-Scottsville Crime Task Force said new information and evidence led detectives to reopen the investigation and treat the death as a homicide. Investigators have sought help from people familiar with Celsor Road and the surrounding area around August 2020 as they work to reconstruct events connected to the child’s death.
The case illustrates how a renewed review can alter the direction of an older investigation. Authorities said the original case had not simply been erased or forgotten, but the newer task force examined the available information again and concluded that the circumstances warranted a homicide investigation. Officials have not disclosed all of the new evidence behind that decision.
The broader review has also produced information related to separate criminal allegations. Authorities arrested Farren Meador in connection with alleged sexual offenses involving separate victims after investigators said information surfaced during the reopened inquiry. Officials have emphasized that those allegations are separate from the investigation into Revelin’s death and have not accused him of causing her death.
Bobby Meador was arrested Oct. 8 in Warren County and was being held at the Warren County Regional Jail while awaiting transfer to Allen County. Investigators have said their work on Revelin’s death is continuing, leaving the source and circumstances of the fentanyl exposure among the key issues still under examination.
