Authorities have not released the family members’ identities, a possible motive or information about criminal charges in the developing homicide case.
TAMARAC, Fla. — Broward County investigators were working Saturday to determine what led to the fatal stabbing of a woman who deputies said was killed by her son at a Tamarac home, an incident that ended with a suspect in custody.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5300 block of Northwest 28th Avenue on Friday evening after authorities received a report of a stabbing. Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Claudinne Caro said deputies arrived at about 7:45 p.m. and found a woman dead at the residence. Deputies also located and detained the suspect.
Local 10 News later reported that deputies described the suspect as the woman’s son. Authorities had not publicly released either person’s name as of Saturday morning. Officials also had not said what may have prompted the violence, and no verified account of an argument or other event preceding the stabbing had been publicly released.
The limited information left several central questions unanswered as homicide detectives processed the home. Investigators had not disclosed whether other people witnessed the encounter, whether anyone else was inside the residence or what evidence was collected. Authorities also had not announced whether the detained man had been formally arrested or charged.
Deputies and investigators remained at the scene into the morning hours, according to local reporting. Crime scene tape surrounded the residence while members of the Sheriff’s Office worked to document and collect evidence. The investigation was being handled as a homicide.
A separate local report said deputies responded after receiving a report of a stabbing and found the woman suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and one person was detained for questioning. That report did not identify the people involved or provide a suspected motive.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement services in Tamarac under an agreement with the city. The agency’s Tamarac district handles patrol and local calls for service, while specialized investigators, including homicide detectives, can respond when a case involves a suspicious or violent death.
Officials had not publicly discussed the history between the mother and son or disclosed whether deputies had previously responded to the residence. No such history should be assumed without records or an official statement, and investigators had not announced findings explaining why the fatal encounter occurred.
The relationship identified by authorities places the killing within a family setting, but investigators had released few additional circumstances surrounding the case. The woman’s identity remained withheld in the reports available Saturday morning, limiting what could be independently established about her or the household.
The case remained under active investigation Saturday. The Sheriff’s Office had not announced a motive, formal charges or additional suspects, and further information was expected to depend on detectives’ findings and any subsequent release from authorities.
