Detectives searched the property and a nearby lake while questions remained about what preceded the killing of 58-year-old Ylda Cabello-Ynocente.
TAMARAC, Fla. — Investigators searched a lake and areas around a Tamarac home after a 58-year-old woman was fatally stabbed Friday, an investigation that ended with her son arrested on a first-degree murder charge but left the circumstances preceding her death unclear.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the woman as Ylda Cabello-Ynocente and accused her 28-year-old son, Manuel Farfan-Cabello, of killing her. Authorities said homicide detectives determined Farfan-Cabello was responsible, but they have not publicly disclosed a motive or a detailed sequence of events leading to the stabbing.
Deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded at about 7:45 p.m. Oct. 9 to a report of a stabbing at 5301 N.W. 28th Ave. Cabello-Ynocente was found suffering from multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Farfan-Cabello was also at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Homicide detectives took over the investigation and later arrested him. He was transported to the Broward County Main Jail and faces one count of first-degree murder. The charge is an accusation and has not been proven in court.
As detectives examined the area, a Broward Sheriff’s Office dive team spent hours searching a lake across the street from the residence. The agency confirmed that the team was searching for evidence, although officials did not publicly identify what investigators hoped to find or say whether anything was recovered.
Neighbors described an extensive search that went beyond the home. Resident Tim Emerson told NBC 6 that investigators looked through backyards, around trees and near the lake. His account offered a view of the scope of the search but did not establish what evidence detectives collected.
Neighbors also described Cabello-Ynocente as a quiet woman who lived at the home with her son. One neighbor told the station that deputies had previously been called to the property and alleged that Farfan-Cabello had damaged windows at the home months earlier. Authorities have not publicly connected any earlier incident to the homicide, and the sheriff’s office has not announced whether previous calls are part of the current investigation.
Another neighbor told NBC 6 that Farfan-Cabello approached the neighbor’s home Friday afternoon asking for a cigarette and appeared to have blood on him. That observation is a witness account, and authorities have not publicly said how it fits into their timeline or what investigators concluded from it.
The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about what investigators believe happened inside the home or why the confrontation occurred. Detectives also have not publicly described the evidence they say led them to identify Farfan-Cabello as the person responsible.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit continues to investigate Cabello-Ynocente’s death. Farfan-Cabello remains accused of first-degree murder as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing.
