Missing Mom of 3 Found Buried in Shallow Grave Near Marsh After 5-Day Search

NEW YORK — Family and friends are mourning a Queens mother of three whose body was found in a shallow grave five days after she disappeared, leaving loved ones to remember a woman who proudly celebrated her children’s accomplishments.

Seraphina Pereira, 35, was last seen Oct. 19 after leaving her home in Queens. Police found her body Oct. 24 near a beach and marshland in the borough, bringing a tragic end to the search for the missing mother.

As investigators pursued the case, those who knew Pereira shared memories and messages of grief on social media.

Pereira frequently posted about her family, including milestones in her children’s lives. In June, she celebrated one child’s graduation from fifth grade and recognition for achievement in mathematics, expressing pride in the accomplishment.

Those personal moments have taken on added significance following her death, offering a glimpse into the family life she shared publicly.

Stanley Gray, among those paying tribute online, remembered Pereira as someone who endured difficult experiences but continued to find reasons to smile.

Davonna Gray also expressed heartbreak, recalling visits and time spent together around New York City. The messages reflected the loss felt by people who had shared everyday experiences with Pereira.

A candlelight vigil is planned for the weekend to honor Pereira and provide support for her three children. The gathering is expected to offer loved ones an opportunity to remember her and show solidarity with her family.

Meanwhile, the investigation into her death has resulted in the arrest of Rogelio Lozano-Garita, 26, who police said was the father of two of Pereira’s children.

Lozano-Garita was arrested Oct. 26 and charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon, concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence. Police have not announced a possible motive.

Authorities have not clarified whether Pereira and Lozano-Garita were still in a relationship when she disappeared. His plea and legal representation were not immediately known as of Tuesday afternoon.

While the criminal case proceeds, Pereira’s loved ones are focusing on the family she leaves behind and the memories they shared with her.

The planned vigil will bring attention not only to the circumstances of her death but also to the three children now facing life without their mother.
