20-Year-Old Man Killed in Downtown Cincinnati Lounge Shooting

Police identified the victim as Kameiro Blair-Martin after officers responded to Memories Lounge early Sunday.

CINCINNATI, Ohio — A 20-year-old man died after he was shot inside a downtown Cincinnati lounge early Sunday, prompting a homicide investigation and a large police response that closed part of East Seventh Street for several hours.

Cincinnati police identified the man as Kameiro Blair-Martin. Officers responded to Memories Lounge, on the 30 block of East Seventh Street, at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a person shot, according to information released by police.

Officers found Blair-Martin suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, police said. Authorities had not announced an arrest or publicly identified a suspect as of Sunday morning.

The shooting brought a heavy police presence to the downtown entertainment area. Officers secured the scene and blocked part of Seventh Street while investigators worked inside and around the lounge. The roadway remained closed for several hours before the scene began to clear.

Early reports from the scene contained differing information about the number of people who may have been injured. Initial dispatch information cited by local media indicated two people had been shot, but the Cincinnati Police Department’s later public information identified Blair-Martin as the person fatally wounded. Police had not announced another shooting victim in their later account.

WLWT reported that officers at the scene described the shooting as targeted. Police, however, had not publicly explained what led to the gunfire or released a possible motive in the department’s later information. Investigators also had not disclosed whether Blair-Martin knew the person who fired the shot.

Another local report said the lounge was cleared as officers investigated and that patrons were not immediately allowed to return. Authorities did not announce when the business would reopen.

The shooting occurred during the early-morning hours in a section of downtown Cincinnati that includes restaurants, bars and other nightlife businesses. Police did not release additional details about what happened inside the lounge before the shooting.

The investigation remained active Sunday. Police had not released suspect information or announced charges, and additional details about the circumstances surrounding Blair-Martin’s death had not been made public.
