Police are investigating the Tuesday night gunfire on Jessup Street as both surviving victims recover in stable condition.
WILMINGTON, Del. — A 27-year-old man was killed and two women were wounded in a triple shooting Tuesday night in Wilmington, prompting an investigation that remained active as police worked to determine what led to the gunfire.
Wilmington police responded about 8:49 p.m. Nov. 3 to the 2300 block of Jessup Street. Officers found the 27-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds and had him taken to a hospital in critical condition. He later died. Police have identified him as Nacier Collins.
A 31-year-old woman also suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. A 21-year-old woman later arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds and was also reported in stable condition, according to police accounts released after the shooting.
Investigators have not announced an arrest or publicly identified a suspect. Police also have not released information about a possible motive or the circumstances that preceded the shooting. Those unanswered questions remain central to the investigation as detectives work to establish what happened on Jessup Street.
The scene remained under investigation Tuesday night as officers gathered evidence from the roadway. Aerial video from the area showed police activity and evidence markers along the street, but authorities have not publicly detailed what evidence was recovered or whether investigators believe more than one person fired a weapon.
The shooting was initially reported by news organizations before police released Collins’ identity. Authorities have not publicly identified the two injured women, and no information has been released indicating their relationship, if any, to Collins or to one another.
Reports differed in their early descriptions of the timing of the police response, a common issue during developing breaking-news coverage. Later accounts citing Wilmington police placed the shooting at approximately 8:49 p.m. Tuesday on the 2300 block of Jessup Street. The confirmed outcome remained unchanged: one man died and two women survived with injuries described as stable.
Police have released few details about the sequence of events surrounding the shooting. Authorities have not said whether the victims were together when the gunfire began, whether a confrontation preceded it or how many shots were fired. No description of a possible suspect or vehicle has been publicly announced.
The investigation remained ongoing Thursday. Detective Brendan Shea is handling the case, and police continue to seek information that could help investigators determine who was responsible and what led to the shooting. No arrests had been announced in the publicly available updates.
