Woman Held Without Bond After Elizabeth City Stabbing Arrest

Stevette Lanelle Skinner faces a serious assault charge after police linked her to injuries suffered by driver Jeremy Lee.

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — A 38-year-old woman was arrested and held without bond after Elizabeth City police accused her of stabbing a man who was later found unconscious following a reported vehicle crash, according to accounts of the investigation.

Stevette Lanelle Skinner was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Police identified Jeremy Lee as the injured driver. Skinner made her first appearance Nov. 2 in Pasquotank County District Court after being taken to the Albemarle District Jail.

The criminal charge follows an investigation that began early Nov. 1 when officers were dispatched at about 5:10 a.m. to a reported motor vehicle collision near Halstead Boulevard Extended and Thunder Road. Officers found Lee unconscious with irregular breathing and apparent injuries and began providing life-saving assistance.

Lee was transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center and later airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Police said information developed after the crash response showed that Lee had suffered multiple stab wounds, prompting detectives to investigate what happened before officers encountered him.

Detectives conducted interviews, gathered evidence and carried out additional investigative work aimed at locating the site of the alleged assault and identifying a suspect. Police subsequently identified Skinner as the person they allege was responsible and took her into custody.

The available public information does not explain what investigators believe led to the encounter between Skinner and Lee. Authorities also have not publicly detailed their relationship, identified a motive or released the exact location where they believe the stabbing occurred. No verified account reviewed for this article described what evidence investigators say directly connects Skinner to the alleged assault.

Skinner’s arrest and charge do not constitute a finding of guilt. The case would have to proceed through the court system, and the reporting reviewed through Nov. 6 did not confirm a later hearing, plea, indictment or other disposition following her initial court appearance.

Police have described the investigation as ongoing. No additional arrest was announced in the reports reviewed, and authorities had not released a confirmed update on Lee’s condition after he was transferred for further hospital treatment.
