Both shooting victims were conscious when taken to a hospital, and police had announced no arrests as the investigation continued.

ATLANTA, Ga. — An 18-year-old man and a child were wounded in a shooting Friday night at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex, police said, as investigators worked to determine what led to the gunfire and who was responsible.

Atlanta police officers responded around 8:45 p.m. to a report of a person shot at 1371 Kimberly Way SW, the address of the Ashley Cascade apartment complex. Officers found the 18-year-old and a juvenile who had been shot. Police have not released the child’s age or identified either shooting victim.

The two shooting victims were alert, conscious and breathing when emergency crews took them to a hospital, according to police. Authorities had not released additional information about the extent of their injuries or their conditions after arriving at the hospital.

Officers also found another male victim who had lacerations connected to the incident, police said. His age was not released. Authorities did not immediately provide further details about how he was injured.

Investigators determined that multiple people had been firing shots in the area, according to police. Officers found several shell casings at the scene, providing investigators with evidence as they worked to establish the sequence of events.

Police had not released the names of any of the injured people or announced any arrests. No suspect descriptions had been made public, and investigators had not said whether they knew how many people were believed to have fired weapons.

Authorities also had not publicly identified a motive or explained what happened immediately before the shooting. Police did not say whether the injured man and child were involved in the exchange of gunfire or were struck while nearby.

The investigation remained active Saturday. Police had not announced any arrests or released additional information about possible suspects, and several details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unknown.
