The unidentified woman was found with multiple stab wounds inside a business on 164th Street in Flushing.
NEW YORK — Police were investigating the killing of an unidentified woman found with multiple stab wounds inside a Queens storefront Friday afternoon, with no arrest announced as authorities worked to determine what happened inside the business.
Emergency crews responded to 36-17 164th St. in Flushing after receiving a report of an unconscious person at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to officials and local news reports. The woman was found unresponsive inside the first-floor business and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had not publicly identified her as of Saturday, and her age was not immediately released.
The discovery opened a homicide investigation centered on a commercial space near Depot Road and Crocheron Avenue. Police secured the location as a crime scene while investigators began gathering evidence and trying to establish a timeline. Authorities had not publicly announced a motive or explained the circumstances that led to the stabbing.
Law enforcement sources told NBC New York that investigators were seeking a bald, heavy-set man who had been seen wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and construction boots. The description had not been accompanied by the public release of a suspect’s name. Other reports said a man was seen leaving the business, but police had not publicly detailed what role, if any, that person may have played in the woman’s death.
The woman was found with numerous stab wounds, according to police and emergency officials. Some news reports, citing law enforcement sources, said she was found without clothing. Authorities did not immediately release further details about the injuries, and police had not said whether a weapon had been recovered. Investigators also had not announced whether surveillance footage from the building or surrounding businesses had been obtained.
Accounts of the initial response placed emergency personnel at the address shortly after 4:30 p.m., while NBC New York reported police were at the storefront around 5 p.m. Those accounts are not necessarily contradictory because emergency medical crews were initially dispatched for an unconscious person before the location was turned over to police as a crime scene.
Neighbors described the storefront as a business whose operations had often been difficult to determine. NBC New York reported that signage appeared to advertise massage services and that residents said the space had previously operated as a skin care business. PIX11 reported that the location was being used as a massage parlor. Police had not said whether the nature of the business was connected to the killing.
The victim’s identity remained one of the central unanswered questions Saturday. NBC New York reported that law enforcement sources said identification was not found with the body. Police had not announced whether investigators had since determined who she was or whether relatives had been notified.
No arrest had been announced by Saturday morning. Police continued investigating the woman’s death and had not publicly disclosed a motive, the victim’s relationship to anyone who may have been inside the storefront, or the events immediately preceding the stabbing.
