Grandmother Beaten to Death, Family Pleads for Help

COLUMBUS, OH – In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the Columbus community, a grandmother was brutally murdered, leaving her family and friends in search of justice. Yolanda Van, 54, was known for her generous spirit and devotion to her family. Her life was tragically cut short in a violent attack that has left the community reeling.

The prime suspect in the case is 31-year-old Erica Carr, who is now facing a murder charge. Law enforcement has released her previous mugshots and noted a distinctive tattoo on her neck, hoping that someone will recognize her and come forward with information.

Yolanda’s son, Robert Van Jr., remembers his mother as a loving and supportive figure who was always there for her family. “She was one of my best friends,” he said, expressing the deep loss felt by those who knew her.

The attack took place on Hiawatha Park Drive in Columbus, a neighborhood not accustomed to such violence. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect strike Yolanda multiple times with an aluminum bat, causing her to fall and suffer fatal injuries. Despite medical efforts, she passed away shortly after the attack.

Yolanda’s former husband, Robert Van Sr., with whom she maintained a close relationship even after their divorce, expressed disbelief at the senseless violence. “Nobody deserves that,” he said, echoing the sentiments of many who are struggling to comprehend the tragedy.

While the motive for the attack remains a mystery, the family is left to grapple with their grief and the absence of a beloved mother and friend. They are urging the public to assist authorities in locating Carr, hoping for justice and closure.
