LAGRANGE, GA – A road rage incident on Interstate 85 has resulted in murder charges for a 23-year-old LaGrange resident. Nick Allen is accused of fatally shooting 64-year-old Richard Hauck from Texas during a confrontation on the highway.
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office reported that Hauck was driving southbound when the altercation with Allen occurred. Witnesses saw the vehicles driving aggressively before Hauck’s car hit the median. Further investigation revealed he had been shot in the head.
The quick action of a witness, who provided Allen’s license plate number, allowed authorities to swiftly locate and arrest the suspect. Such public cooperation is vital in cases like this, officials said.
Allen’s criminal history includes a prior arrest for reckless driving and assault after he allegedly used his car to threaten managers at a workplace earlier this year.
With new charges of murder and firearm possession in a crime, Allen’s legal troubles have deepened. The motive for the highway dispute remains under investigation.
Despite emergency efforts, Hauck did not survive his injuries. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with road rage and the importance of maintaining composure behind the wheel.
Authorities continue to seek additional information and encourage witnesses to come forward as they work to understand the details of the incident.
